This annual literacy celebration celebrates emerging readers and provides a One Book One Town experience where the entire community participates. Each book choice has a universal theme that embraces diversity and community building. Children in early care programs across the town enjoy the collective experience by creating artwork that reflects the message the author communicates. Downtown Branford businesses support our initiative each year and look forward to displaying 100's of pieces of work throughout the downtown area. The week, celebrated in April each year, hosts a free family event with entertainment and hands-on activities, touch-a-truck, sensory tables with partners that cater to the education of young children. Over 5000 books have been given to Branford children since 2010.
"Week of the Young Child is our time to recognize the importance of early learning and early literacy, and to celebrate the teachers and policies that bring early childhood education to young children." Robin Comey, Executive Director, BECC
